Our Ministry consists of a group of parishioners who advise and work with our pastor to carry out many functions and duties in order to keep up and enhance our church, school, office and residence, plus all the shrubs and flower beds on the grounds, including our church affiliated cemetery.
We meet in conjunction with the Finance Committee four times per year. A representative also reports to the Parish Council, at their meetings, on all ongoing activities and projects. In addition, members meet, somewhere in church facilities, periodically and informally, on a need basis, in smaller groups, in order to work on various projects in the parish. The number of these sessions depends upon the projects being worked on, and the time required for completion.
Our facilities are inspected annually by a Diocesan representative to insure adherence to current building codes for security and insurance requirements. It is the responsibility of this ministry to follow up on any exceptions, take corrective action, and fill out a report through the parish office, to be sent to the Diocese.
We review all day-to-day activities that require our attention, so that we can allocate our resources to get the jobs completed. Although we hire contractors for major jobs like snow plowing and lawn mowing, there are many jobs that need to be completed on a regular basis. For example, in the wintertime, some snow shoveling, distribution of salt or ice melt next to our entrances and exits may be needed. Light bulbs, carbon monoxide monitors (co monitors), and possibly electrical fixtures should be checked on and replaced when required. A small paint job may be necessary in a classroom. Batteries, in certain fixtures, when they are worn out, must be replaced. This is a very small sampling of things that need to be looked after. It is the responsibility of the group to assist our pastor in constantly reviewing our facilities to be sure everything is up to date and in proper order. It is noted that on larger projects like a new heating system, or possibly a new roof, the committee would work with our pastor for his approval to obtain financial bids and ultimate follow through to complete the project.
The Buildings and Grounds Ministry, by pursuing their objectives, along with all the other parish ministries, will hopefully add to the enhancement of the spiritual life of the parish. Participation also gives us the opportunity to observe and appreciate all the other parish activities that contribute to the vitality of our community. Moreover, those of us in this ministry feel a great sense of comradery and satisfaction as we carry out our duties, which hopefully, carries over to the benefit of the entire parish.

This group works to maintain the parish buildings and grounds both on the inside, and the outside. Projects are decided upon throughout the year by the group.
